SAGADA is like a dreamland. It provides a perfect escape to your stressful world. the people are warm and kind. some place i want to spent my graying days. cheers!
Yes, howmayiserveyou. 'imo' is used to address a single person and 'kaninyong tanan' is a phrase used to address a group of people. These words do not only apply to greetings. We can also say, 'Nahigugma ko sa imo.' ('I love you.'), 'Nagdamgo ko sa imo.' ('I dreamed about you.'), 'Amo ning gibuhat alang kaninyong tanan.' (Gusto kong makita kayong lahat.)
Pa-translate naman nito in Kankana-ey oh:
Anong nangyari sa close-up pic ni CHORVA sa website ng SAGGAS? Sadya ba itong tinanggal?
so basically "imo"=refers to a person and "kaninyong tanan"=refers to more than 1 is that right? or does it apply to greetings only?
kc dito sa amin, maraming variations, like for greeting someone at night, "gawis ay labim", gawis ay labi, meaning good night and adding an "m" points to a single person being greeted. in words ending in a,e,i,o,u, adding an "m" after that refers to a single person or to a person you are speaking to. doesn't apply to all words though.. :D
ex. tet-ewa(true) tet-ewa yo? - is it true?(if you are asking them as a group) tet-ewam? - if you are asking a single person
more to come mam, have to think of some other words, its funny i can't think of other samples of what i just explained.. haha ...
one more thing.. am not good looking

Yes. Tama po. I will be honored to teach someone as good-looking as you.
Here are a few translations: Magandang umaga sa iyo. - Maayong buntag sa imo. Magandang umaga sa inyong lahat. - Maayong buntag kaninyong tanan. Magandang tanghali sa iyo. - Maayong udto sa imo. Magandang tanghali sa inyong lahat. - Maayong udto kaninyong tanan. Magandang hapon sa iyo. - Maayong hapon sa imo. Magandang hapon sa inyong lahat. - Maayong hapon kaninyong tanan. Magandang gabi sa iyo. - Maayong gabi-i sa imo. Magandang gabi sa inyong lahat. - Maayong gabi-i kaninyong tanan. Q: Kumusta ka na? - Kumusta na man ka? A: Mabuti na man ako. - Maayo man ko. Salamat. - Salamat. Anong pangalan mo? - Unsay pangalan nimo? Anong ginagawa mo? - Unsay imong gibuhat? I'm sorry. Please forgive me. - Pasensya na. Pasaylo-a ko. Saan ka pupunta? - Asa man ka mo adto?
That's it for now. I will be teaching you some more very soon. Why don't we exchange lessons?

Sagadablues has started teaching me your dialect. He patiently answered all of my questions about your beautiful hometown and even encouraged me to share my own experience. To be able to speak Kankana-ey like the natives would be truly awesome!
O, taga Cebu ko. Cebuana gyud ko. Ngano gusto man ka makat-on ug Bisaya, howmayiserveyou? (Oo, taga Cebu ako. Cebuana nga ako. Bakit gusto mong matutong mag Bisaya, howmayiserveyou?)

how are you?=kasanu ka?/kumusta ka, i am fine=gawigawis ak or gawisak/mayat ak, actually mam, even though we speak kankana-ey,there are some ilocano words that are mixed, foer example,[mayat],it's an ilocano word w/c we addapted but the original is gawis, check this out,=["how are you?don't worry about me,i'm fine,i'm here at baguio this time"],={"kasanu ka or kumosta ka?adi ka madanagan tay mayat/gawis ak sina, wadaak sina baguio idwani"},by the way, you're right, besao and sagada speak kankana-ey but we don't have the same intonation, hehe
ah ok, wory not mam, since it's a part of our job,i have a female friend also from cebu 4 almost 2 years, she contacted me for a sagada tour but failed to come last december because she's alone, her name is chery lyn verano, baka kilala mo,hehe, incase lang ho mam,ang laki kaya ng cebu ano?,wahehehe, anyway mam,i don't think so that there are books available,i've lots of former guests also who wanted to learn our dialect so what i did is through chat, you can add me up @ lestersky2001@yahoo.com so i can answer you're questions, hehe, god bless
You are so kind. You have no idea how much I want to learn how to speak Kankanaey. How might I learn to speak your dialect faster? Is there a book I can buy? A website I can visit perhaps? I met an Igorot from Besao in one of the malls here in Cebu. People from Besao speak Kankanaey too, right? I was so thrilled to have met her! I showed her the pictures I took when I visited Sagada. I so wanted to ask her to teach me a few words in Kankanaey but she had to attend to other customers. If I keep visiting just to get a few lessons she might get annoyed. Poor me. Hehehe!
wahehe, upon you're sentence i mean, senxa na po,medyo nakainom kasi ako hehe, sory po mam, mukhang busy si how may i serve you ah hehe, aka sina treasure rock pards

You are right. I have to witness one to truly understand what transpires during a wedding ceremony. I hope I get lucky on my next visit and have the chance to finally witness one for myself.
What can tourists look forward to in the month of June?
you might want to call it a 4 day celebration... :D...
for example, your wedding day is the 15th, so before the said date, people will come to help with all the preparations, from butchering pigs to cooking rice and whatever you want to be prepared for your guests.. it's a circus... :D
now, it's your wedding day, first comes the ceremony by the elders, after that, the church ceremony. so you kinda get married "twice"..
the 3rd one is kind of a "relax" or "rest" day, but mind you, expect people/late guests who did not make it the previous day, to arrive, either to bring their gifts or to help with the preparations for the next day..
4th and last one... this is usually the day where the people of the community, celebrate, and bring their gifts to the newly weds..
but you have to witness one to truly understand one.. :D
cheers!!

Hello everyone! I am from Cebu and I visited Sagada for the first time last March 29, 2009. My friends and I stayed at the Sagada Guest House and Restaurant. Our brief stay was an experience like no other. Sagada is very beautiful. We went inside Sumaging Cave and it was really great. I often lost momentum, cramped up and had a hard time finding my way through but it was still really fun. We vowed to visit Sagada every year. I am so looking forward to our next visit. =)
Sagada is stunning.. breathtaking views.. majestic sunrise and sunsets! the people are very warm (blooded?!) lol.. friendly and laidback.. we had a wonderful time. can't wait to go back! it is indeed, a shangri-la!
